History, Hopps, and Hunter’s Head Point: Cocktails with Friends of Acadia
This week on Cocktails with Friends, Bob Cutler chats with his friend Devin Leuddeke from Friends of Acadia. They’re talking about Acadia National Park, because Acadia National Park has a lot to talk about.
Big, beautiful, and the only national park in all of New England, Acadia stands against the sea as a proud reminder of the beautiful, rugged nature of Maine. Since the pandemic, many people have rediscovered how nice it is to spend time outdoors. This has led to an increase in visitors, bringing some challenges that Devin and his team are hard at work addressing.
The parking situation can be real tough, especially on an island!
Friends of Acadia are always at the forefront of conservation efforts, and always have been: ever since the late 70s, people have been there to care for the carriage roads and winding trails whenever they’ve needed it, but it was in the mid 80s when the formation of Friends of Acadia took it to higher levels.
You might wonder, “Why is Bob suddenly talking about national parks?” “We have the Friends, but where do the cocktails come in?” As a gift from a state that knows a thing or two about national parks, Wyoming Whiskey is teaming up with Friends of Acadia to launch a special “Parks” edition whiskey, featuring Hunter’s Head Point on the label. A portion of the proceeds will support Friends of Acadia and their mission. This limited release has only 150 cases available, and exclusively in Maine, for Maine.
If you want to learn more about Friends of Acadia and how you can help support the park, head to friendsofacadia.org for more information. Next time your drink is on the rocks, remember the rocky coast of Acadia park: the sight is just as grand as your liquor.
Cheers!
