Friends and Fatherhood: Drinks with Doctor Mike Ross
On this episode of Cocktails with Friends, Bob Cutler brings along Dr. Mike Ross to “coach us up”. But instead of a stethoscope, he’s bringing in an old fashioned, and instead of an MD, today he’s just a D… for Dad.
Father’s Day may have passed, but Bob and Mike are still fathers every single day. They talk about their children, how the two raise them similarly and differently, and the evolution of parenting from strict rules to more gentle guidance. There’s also the matter of balancing what you want for your child and what your child wants for themselves, and the endless issue of getting them to hockey practice on time.
Of course, as all fathers must, Bob and Mike bemoan the state of the new generation (it comes with the territory). They talk about “participation trophy” mentality, where they think it came from, and what to do with all these cup trophies piling up — you can’t even put a drink in them! But that doesn’t stop them from talking about them: Mike shares his favorite whiskey cocktail recipe, and Bob offers some distinct insight on some ways to spice it up.
